Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people?

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join the team at Colchester, a specialist primary provision supporting pupils across KS1 and KS2 who have experienced barriers to learning.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with SEND, SEMH needs, and those who have faced challenges in mainstream education, helping them re-engage, rebuild confidence, and succeed.

About Us

Provision offering interim alternative and specialist education. The Colchester site is home to a specialist SEMH provision for pupils with EHCPs, supporting children referred through:

  • Permanent Exclusion
  • Request for Support

Our mission is simple: to help every pupil overcome barriers, re-engage with learning, and successfully transition to their next stage in education.

The Role

You will work closely with the SENCo, Senior Leadership Team, and teaching staff to provide both 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

You’ll play a key role in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment, where every child feels valued and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils’ learning, progress, and emotional wellbeing
  • Work with children with SEND and SEMH needs, including those with trauma backgrounds
  • Build strong, positive relationships and model excellent behaviour
  • Assist with planning, interventions, and classroom delivery
  • Engage with families and carers to support pupil development
  • Contribute to a collaborative and reflective team environment
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working with KS1/KS2 pupils (essential)
  • Strong literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills
  • Experience supporting children with SEND and/or SEMH needs (desirable)
  • A calm, resilient, and proactive approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education
What We Offer
  • A supportive and collaborative leadership team
  • Ongoing professional development focused on SEND and alternative provision
  • Opportunities to shape and innovate within the provision
  • A values-led culture that prioritises staff wellbeing
  • A strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion
Working Pattern
  • Monday – Thursday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
